Reflections on raising four very different kids in a beautifully neurodiverse home

I’ve learned that parenting isn’t something we master. Rather, it’s something that shapes us. When Richard and I began raising our four wonderfully different, neurodiverse children, we quickly discovered that no amount of preparation could predict the humans who would arrive.

Each child invited us into a new way of seeing: to notice their strengths, honour their uniqueness, and stay curious even when nothing made sense. In many ways, they became some of my greatest teachers.

If you’d like to read more about what they’ve taught me, I’ve shared the fuller reflection over on my Substack.

I acknowledge that my work takes place on the traditional, unceded, and ancestral territories of the Stó:lō people — including the q̓ic̓əy̓ (Katzie), qw̓ɑ:nƛ̓ə̓n̓ (Kwantlen), Mathxwí (Matsqui), Semá:th (Sumas), Leq’á:mel, and Semiahmoo First Nations — and I am grateful to live and work on these lands.
