Grief Has No Expiry Date

Grief doesn’t arrive only with death. It shows up in lost dreams, unmet hopes, and the quiet ways life changes shape over time. And once it arrives, it doesn’t follow a neat timeline or disappear when we think it should.

In this reflection, I write about the ongoing nature of grief. About how it changes us, how it revisits us, and how we learn to keep living even when loss becomes part of our story.

I also share personally about missing my brother and sister-in-law decades after their deaths, and how grief has re-emerged in this season of inner change and growth.

This piece is about remembering, longing, and discovering that connection does not end where loss begins. It is about carrying those we love forward with us as we continue to live fully and intentionally.

I acknowledge that my work takes place on the traditional, unceded, and ancestral territories of the Stó:lō people — including the q̓ic̓əy̓ (Katzie), qw̓ɑ:nƛ̓ə̓n̓ (Kwantlen), Mathxwí (Matsqui), Semá:th (Sumas), Leq’á:mel, and Semiahmoo First Nations — and I am grateful to live and work on these lands.
