Learning to Live Backwards: Becoming Someone Worth Remembering

What if the way we live each day was shaped by how we hope people will remember us?

Not through accomplishments or recognition, but through presence, kindness, and the small ways we make others feel.

In this reflection, I explore how memories of my Oma, lessons from parenting, and everyday human encounters have shaped my understanding of legacy. From refugee beginnings to quiet resilience, from family rhythms to small daily interactions, I reflect on how love continues to ripple forward across generations.

This piece also considers what it means to live intentionally, to hold the end in mind while making ordinary choices that shape connection, belonging, and emotional safety.

If you find yourself pondering meaning, presence, and the impact of small moments, I invite you to read the full reflection on Substack.

I acknowledge that my work takes place on the traditional, unceded, and ancestral territories of the Stó:lō people — including the q̓ic̓əy̓ (Katzie), qw̓ɑ:nƛ̓ə̓n̓ (Kwantlen), Mathxwí (Matsqui), Semá:th (Sumas), Leq’á:mel, and Semiahmoo First Nations — and I am grateful to live and work on these lands.
