What I Found When Everything Slowed Down

Sometimes what’s missing only becomes clear when life gets quiet

The early days of the pandemic created something many of us weren’t used to: space.

In that space, I began to notice what had quietly slipped out of my life. For me, that missing piece was music.

After coming across a video from Westcoast Harmony Chorus, I followed a small spark of curiosity that led me to join - initially online, during a time when everything felt uncertain.

What I found was more than just a place to sing. It was a community that was welcoming, encouraging, and deeply committed to growth.

Over time, this experience has stretched me not only as a musician, but also in confidence, connection, and a willingness to try something new.

Sometimes the things we think we don’t have room for… are exactly what we need.

I acknowledge that my work takes place on the traditional, unceded, and ancestral territories of the Stó:lō people — including the q̓ic̓əy̓ (Katzie), qw̓ɑ:nƛ̓ə̓n̓ (Kwantlen), Mathxwí (Matsqui), Semá:th (Sumas), Leq’á:mel, and Semiahmoo First Nations — and I am grateful to live and work on these lands.
